OCEAN PROJECTS/MODELS
Collaberative ocean projects:

ARGO
Argo is a global array of 3,000 free-drifting profiling floats that will measure the temperature and salinity of the upper 2000 m of the ocean. This will allow continuous monitoring of the climate state of the ocean, with all data being relayed and made publicly available within hours after collection.

GDAC
The Global Data Assembly Center (GDAC) is the portal to the GODAE high resolution sea surface temperature pilot project. Both AATSR and AMSR-E data are available from JPL.

HYCOM
HYBRID COORDINATE OCEAN MODEL: The HYCOM consortium is a multi-institutional effort funded by the National Ocean Partnership Program (NOPP) to develop and evaluate a data-assimilative hybrid isopycnal-sigma-pressure (generalized) coordinate ocean model (called HYbrid Coordinate Ocean Model or HYCOM).

HYCOM Ocean Surface Currents http://oceancurrents.rsmas.miami.edu
ECCO
Estimating the Circulation and Climate of the Ocean: a multi-institutional consortium between MIT, JPL and SIO, funded by the National Ocean Partnership program, to bring ocean state estimation into a operational tool for studying large-scale ocean dynamics, designing observational strategies, and examining he ocean's role in climate variability.

OCEAN
Coral reefs, tides and currents, buoys, marine sanctuaries, estuaries, diving, oil and chemical spills:

IPRC/APDRC
International Pacific Research Center: A climate research center conceived under the U.S.-Japan Common Agenda for Cooperation in Global Perspective, focused on climate variation and predictability in the Asia-Pacific region, including regional aspects of global environmental change.

The Asian Pacific Data Research Center is the data archive and serving center for IPRC.

MERCATOR Ocean Bulletin
The French MERCATOR project generates on an operational basis weekly ocean bulletins which bring us a continuous three dimensional picture of the ocean and offer forecasts for the next two weeks, based on archive and real-time data (ocean-observing satellites like TOPEX/POSEIDON, ERS and Jason and ENVISAT, in situ ocean measurements thanks to CORIOLIS).

Met Office
FOAM produces real-time analyses and forecasts of the temperature, salinity and currents of the deep ocean for up to five days ahead for the Royal Navy. FOAM is built around a physically based ocean model. It is driven by surface fluxes from The Met. Office weather forecast system and uses measurements of ocean temperature that are available in near real-time to keep the model close to reality. A global version of FOAM with one-degree horizontal resolution and 20 levels in the vertical has been run every day in the operational suite at The Met. Office since October 1997.

The Met Office Hadley Centre observations datasets links at ENSEMBLES (EN3): quality controlled in situ ocean temperature and salinity profiles provide the details on the quality control and the file format available for the GODAE QC intercomparison project. The ESODAE project
The ESODAE project is a collaboration between a number of European organizations, interested in the development of models to analyze and forecast the oceans of the North West European shelf, with a particular interest in the use of data assimilation techniques. The project is being carried out within the framework of the Marine Science and Technology Program (MAST-III), funded by the European Union, and presently takes the form of a Concerted Action, representing Phase 1, with the actual experiment being realized in future phases. The present objective is that some of these future phases will run in conjunction with the Global Ocean Data Assimilation Experiment, GODAE.

NRL Modeling
This site contains real-time nowcast/forecast results from the 1/16 global Naval Research Lab (NRL) Layered Ocean Model (NLOM), including snapshots, animations and forecast verification statistics for many zoom regions, mainly SSH, SST and surface currents. It also contains direct model-data comparisons. In addition this site contains the 1/8 global Modular Ocean Data Assimilation (MODAS) sea surface height (SSH) and sea surface temperature (SST) analyses, again with snapshots and animations for many zoom regions, plus a direct look at the real-time altimeter data available.

DIADEM
The Web page presents results from an ongoing ocean forecasting and -monitoring experiment in the North Atlantic. The DIADEM forecasting system, which runs in nearly real time, relies on integrated use of satellite observations of physical and biological variables. A high resolution version of the Miami Isopycnic Coordinate Ocean Model (MICOM) is applied with three different data assimilation techniques which weekly assimilate satellite observed Sea Level Anomalies (SLA) from T/P-ERS2 and Reynolds Sea Surface Temperature (SST) data.
